Offering turnkey installation: what does it actually earn you?

DRAFT — TO BE REVIEWED BY THE TEAM BEFORE PUBLICATION

Turnkey installation pulls three levers at once: your close rate on the floor, your average basket, and the volume of returns and after-sales complaints. For most retailers the third one weighs heaviest, because a botched assembly costs a trip, a part, and often the Google review. The service sells — but it pays for itself mostly through what it prevents.

Draft — to be reviewed by the team. Replace the orders of magnitude with real figures once we have history from one or two partners (with their consent). Publish no statistic we can't defend.

Lever 1 — closing on the floor

"I'll think about it" often hides "I don't know how I'd assemble this." Removing that unknown at the counter shortens the decision cycle, especially on bulky products.

Lever 2 — average basket

A customer reassured about installation moves up-range more easily. The bigger sauna, the gazebo with the hard top, the accessories: the assembly constraint drops out of the equation.

Lever 3 — returns and after-sales

This is the least visible lever and the most expensive. A poorly assembled product generates a call, a trip, sometimes a part, and a negative review that stays online. Professional installation turns that spend into a non-spend.

Frequently asked questions

Should we bill installation separately or include it?
Both work. Including it simplifies the sales pitch; billing separately protects your margin on hard-access jobs. Many retailers offer a base package and bill the extras.
Do we keep the relationship with our customer?
Yes. The customer stays yours: we schedule, install, clean up — and it's your name they remember.
What if the customer calls back in two years?
Send us the file. After-sales service is part of the partnership.
